‘Jai Bhim’ director T J Gnanavel has apologised for any unintended hurt that the movie might have caused to a section of people.

In a statement, the director said, “I did not realise that a calendar shown in the background to reflect the period — 1995 — would be construed as a reference to a community. Our intention was to reflect the period, not to refer to a particular community. None of us registered the calendar either during the shoot or the post-production. Even if we had noticed it before release, we would have changed it instantly.”

“We made the film to give hope that if the police and the judiciary work together, they can ensure the safety of the underprivileged. It’s unfortunate that producer Suirya is being forced to take responsibility for something that the director is accountable for.  I wholeheartedly express my apologies to those who have felt hurt because of the film,” he further said.

It is said that the director issued the statement in a bid to clarify his stand and to avoid further problems to Suriya.

‘Jai Bhim’ got into a controversy when political party Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) alleged that the caste to which most of its cadres belong has been unfairly targeted in the film.
