An official statement from the Buckingham palace read, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
Royal deaths also have special code names. Prince Philip’s death is known as Operation Forth Bridge – just how the Queen’s is called “London Bridge is Down”. The Forth Bridge was opened in 1964, designed by the English engineers Sir John Fowler and Sir Benjamin Baker. It connects Edinburgh to Perth and at the time was the longest suspension bridge in the world outside of the United States.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh inaugurated it together. Operation Menai Bridge is the name for the funeral plan for Charles, Prince of Wales, the codename refers to a suspension bridge in Wales.
While the unfortunate news of his sudden demise has left the world in a state of shock, many will continue to remember him as a man of honour and great patience. Throughout the 69 years of his wife’s reign and 73 years of marriage , he supported her through every thick and thin and also survived the tides of changing times.
Even into his 90s, Prince Philp continued carrying out his duties and contributed to many social causes.
The death of the Duke will be mourned by millions around the world. However, many will continue to celebrate the legacy he has left behind.
