Twenty-five of the patients were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, a spokesman said.

The agency said the destination was the tourist magnet Niagara Falls, but the origin of the bus was not immediately clear.

The Associated Press reported that the bus had been in the Fishkill area, in New York’s Hudson Valley, before heading toward Niagara Falls.

State police said the cause of the accident is being investigated.

Images of the scene showed a bus missing its split windshield and dents on the passenger side and roof. There was debris nearby and patches of green were attached to parts of the vehicle.

Weedsport is located about 25 miles west of Syracuse.
