Mumbai Saga brought the adrenaline, edge-of-the-seat, whistle-worthy action back to the big screens with a highly anticipated release on Friday. The John Abraham-Emraan Hashmi starrer has a very patent-Balaji vibe with a Mumbai-based gangster at the center. 1. Vaastav: The Reality – Amazon Prime Video

“Pachhass tola, Maaa” – just one of Sanjay Dutt’s many iconic dialogues in this captivating crime flick. Dutt definitely played and nailed the role of Raghu, a humble Mumbai boy who gets caught up in crime and becomes the king of the crime world. Not only is it listed as one of his best performances, but the movie is also one of the best Hindi gangster movies on Amazon Prime Video.

2. Gangs of Wasseypur – Amazon Prime Video

A Hindi gangster movie list is incomplete without the mention of Anurag Kashyap’s stunning creation, Gangs of WasseypurCreated in two parts, it took gangster movies to a whole new level with the raw portrayal of gangs, the havoc they wreak and the reality of daring cinema. Expect too many shocking twists and turns and Nawazuddin Siddiqui at its best in the two parts, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

3. Satya – Amazon Prime Video

Anurag Kashyap was one of the screenwriters for this Ram Gopal Verma hit. The story follows a man who sets out to avenge the death of his brother, who was killed in a gang war. Meanwhile, the husband of one of the ex-girlfriend’s ex-girlfriend is out to get him. When the two come face to face, they decide to join forces and get a hold of the real culprits.

4. Once upon a time in Mumbaai – MX Player

Coming from the same production house as Mumbai Saga Once upon a time in Mumbaai is a fictional film loosely based on the lives of underworld gangsters Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim. Ajay Devgn plays Sultan Mirza, the protagonist of Mumbai’s smuggling underworld, who runs his business with principles and ethics and is respected by those around him for his generosity. He soon meets his downfall when a younger, more dangerous gangster Shoaib Khan (played by Emraan Hashmi) comes to power and overthrows Sultan Mirza to become the new kingpin and rule Mumbai. The movie also stars Kangana Ranaut and Prachi Desai.

5. Shootout at Lokhandwala – MX Player

Shoot Lokhandwala is another indispensable blast from the past. This 2007 film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is inspired by the massive war that broke out between gangster Mahindra Dolas and his gang and the Mumbai police in 1991. The film is full of great action scenes and great performances from Vivek Oberoi, Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty.

6. Raees – Netflix

Featuring a police officer (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who has made it his life’s mission to catch a gangster from the underworld, Raees is a film directed by Shah Rukh Khan. He’s going to be a Gujarat bootlegger, but he’s got his own ethics. However, things go haywire for Raees when ACP Majumdar is assigned his case. The movie also marked the great Pakistani actor Mahira Khan Bollywood debut

7. Maqbool – Amazon Prime Video

A film by Vishal Bhardwaj, Maqbool is inspired by William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is a brilliant crime drama with a star cast including the late Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur. Set against the backdrop of the Mumbai underworld scene, the story revolves around Miyan Maqbool, the henchman who works for a powerful underworld Don and the mistress of Don Nimmi, with whom Maqbool is secretly in love.
